(Hollywood, CA) A gripping psychological thriller from The Unknown Artists, On The Line is a tense new drama at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Loosely inspired by Ann Rule’s real-life experiences with Ted Bundy, this haunting production serves as a chilling reminder of the very real dangers women continue to face every day.
We were honored to attend a performance of On The Line during this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. Thank you to The Unknown Artists for inviting us out!
About On The Line
Written and directed by Pamela Eberhardt (Family Fries, This Show is Surrounded by True Events) and Dan Testa (13th Grade), On The Line unfolds during the graveyard shift at a Seattle crisis hotline in 1984. Hannah, a warm and deeply empathetic counselor, is tasked with training a charming new hire named Nick. As the night progresses, the pair navigate personal conversations alongside an escalating series of calls from women in distress – calls that feel increasingly connected, increasingly unsettling, and far too deliberate to be mere coincidence.
Content Warning: On The Line contains graphic descriptions of sexual assault.
An Important Story
On The Line is undeniably suspenseful, but what stayed with me was its deeper message. This isn’t simply a story about one dangerous man. It’s about the systems that allow dangerous men to thrive. It’s about how women’s instincts are dismissed as overreactions, how their fears are minimized, and how many times someone has to say, “Something feels wrong,” before anyone chooses to listen. Because far too often the answer is: too many.
While On The Line moves at a deliberate pace, that restraint is one of its greatest strengths. Rather than relying on constant shocks, the show allows the unease to build naturally, scene by scene, creating a creeping sense of dread that feels disturbingly true to life.
On The Line may not rely on traditional jump scares, but its horror cuts much deeper. Thought-provoking, emotionally grounded, and deeply unsettling, it’s a production that lingers long after the final curtain.
