(Orlando, FL) Over the years, I’ve seen more Fringe shows than I can count, but I can honestly say I’ve never experienced anything quite like Letters in Need. Presented by the brilliant team at Phoenix Tears Productions, this intimate one-on-one performance is more than just a show. It’s a gentle reminder that kindness still exists, that small human connections matter, and that none of us are as alone as we sometimes feel.
We were honored to experience Letters in Need as part of the 2026 Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival. Huge thanks to Phoenix Tears Productions for inviting us out!
What is Orlando Fringe?
Letters in Need is part of the 35th Annual Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, a two-week celebration of unjuried and uncensored works of performing art. While Fringe festivals take place all over the world, Orlando Fringe is the longest-running festival of its kind in the United States.
One of the best things about Fringe is the unpredictability. Around every corner is something unexpected, experimental, heartfelt, hilarious, or completely unlike anything you’ve seen before and that spirit of creative risk is exactly what makes the festival so special.

You’ll find Letters in Need tucked beside the PO Boxes near the Silver Venue at Orlando Family Stage. Once your one-on-one experience begins, you’ll meet your Postmaster and quickly discover that you are no longer just an audience member – you’re a volunteer helping to process an overwhelming backlog of letters.
Each performance lasts approximately twenty minutes. After a brief orientation from your Postmaster, you’ll begin opening, reading, and sorting letters together.

What follows is profoundly affecting…
Every envelope carries a different voice, a different worry, a different glimpse into someone’s life. Some letters are hopeful. Others are heavy. Together, they paint a deeply human portrait of grief, loneliness, joy, uncertainty, love, and the quiet need to feel understood.
As you work through the letters, conversations naturally emerge between you and the Postmaster. Despite the short runtime, the experience has a way of opening the door to unexpectedly meaningful discussions about community, overwhelm, connection, and what it means to care for one another.
My biggest advice going into this experience? Be honest. It may feel easier to deflect or keep things surface-level, but Letters in Need gives back exactly what you bring into it. The more willing you are to engage sincerely, the more powerful and personal the experience becomes.

And without spoiling anything: the finale holds one final emotional surprise that beautifully ties everything together. I won’t say more than that.
Just trust me when I say you’ll leave very glad you said yes to this show.
