(Orlando, FL) Big changes are coming to Universal Orlando Resort as the entertainment giant announced a sweeping lineup of new experiences, dining concepts, and reimagined attractions set to roll out over the next several years.
The announcement continues Universal’s aggressive expansion strategy as the resort prepares for another major evolution of its parks and entertainment offerings. From updates at Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure to fresh additions at Universal CityWalk, guests can expect a mix of nostalgia, innovation, and entirely new themed experiences.
Horror Make-Up Show Getting a Reimagined Update
One of Universal Studios Florida’s longest-running attractions, the Horror Make-Up Show, will temporarily close beginning May 12, 2026. The attraction is set to return later this year with a refreshed version that blends classic and modern horror properties while preserving the comedic and irreverent tone fans have loved for decades.
Universal says the updated experience will feature “shockingly fun surprises,” though additional details about the new show format and intellectual properties involved have not yet been revealed.
The attraction has long served as both a tribute to practical horror effects and a humorous behind-the-scenes look at movie magic, making it a cult favorite among longtime park visitors.
Major Transformation Planned for Lost Continent
Perhaps the most significant announcement involves Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure. Universal confirmed that venues and experiences within the land will begin permanently closing in phases over the coming months to make room for an entirely new themed area.
The transformation will eventually include the closure of the award-winning Mythos Restaurant in 2027.
While Universal has not yet revealed what will replace Lost Continent, the announcement is likely to fuel speculation among theme park fans about the future direction of Islands of Adventure and what intellectual property may move into the space.
Lost Continent has been part of Islands of Adventure since the park opened in 1999 and is known for its elaborate mythology-inspired architecture and immersive storytelling.
Thunder Falls Terrace Becoming New Signature Restaurant
Another notable change coming to Islands of Adventure is the closure of Thunder Falls Terrace later this summer.
The quick-service restaurant will be transformed into what Universal describes as an “all-new dining concept” and the future signature full-service restaurant for the park. The reimagined venue is expected to debut in 2027.
Located near Jurassic Park, Thunder Falls Terrace has been popular for its rotisserie chicken offerings and views of the nearby river adventure attraction. Universal has not yet shared the theme or cuisine style for the replacement restaurant.
Joey Fatone Brings Fat One’s to CityWalk
Universal CityWalk is also gaining a celebrity-backed dining location with the arrival of Fat One’s Hot Dogs & Italian Ice.
Founded by *NSYNC member Joey Fatone and his manager Joe Mulvihill, the restaurant will serve creative hot dogs, Italian ice, and other specialty items.
The venue will replace Hot Dog Hall of Fame, which is scheduled to close in July to make way for the new concept.
The addition continues CityWalk’s recent push toward high-profile food and entertainment experiences aimed at expanding the district’s appeal beyond theme park guests.
Universal’s Expansion Momentum Continues
These announcements add to a growing list of projects already underway at Universal Orlando Resort. Previously revealed additions include Five Guys and Luke Combs’ Category 10 coming to CityWalk, as well as the highly anticipated Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift roller coaster scheduled to open at Universal Studios Florida in 2027.
With multiple new attractions, dining experiences, and land transformations in development, Universal Orlando appears poised to continue its rapid growth and strengthen its position as one of the world’s premier theme park destinations.
Universal says more details about each project will be revealed in the months ahead. For official updates, visit Universal Orlando Resort‘s website.
