About Tales of the Ancient East

Told in a series of three “realms,” Tales of the Ancient East follows an ill-fated archeologist who inadvertently awakens a deity of death. This supernatural guide then leads audiences through a trio of haunting narratives: the story of Creation (complete with a visit from an infamous serpent), the rise and fall of Egypt (highlighting the Biblical plagues and Cleopatra’s demise), and, finally, the chilling arrival of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
But it’s not just Zioni’s fresh retelling of these familiar legends that makes Tales of the Ancient East so extraordinary. The production is bolstered by stunning visuals – including a handmade, 20-foot, fog-breathing snake puppet (yes, really!) – and an all-original score. Every costume, prop, and scenic element is meticulously crafted, rich with symbolic meaning, historical significance, and immersive detail. While casual viewers might not catch every reference, nothing on Antony’s stage is accidental. His attention to detail rivals that of a Disney Imagineer, with intricately painted hieroglyphics and recreated ancient artifacts seamlessly adding depth to the performance.

That same level of precision extends to the show’s musical elements. The story unfolds through a series of original songs, each accompanied by period-appropriate instruments. Captivating in both composition and lyrical storytelling, the music works in perfect harmony with the show’s narrative and visuals, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind piece of performance art.

P.S. I could have watched that incredible serpent puppet all day. No exaggeration. Whatever you do, don’t miss Tales of the Ancient East.
