Tales of the Ancient East
Told in a series of three “realms,” Tales of the Ancient East follows an ill-fated archeologist as he mistakenly awakens the deity of death. This supernatural being will lead audience members through the story of Creation (with visits from the infamous serpent), the Kingdom of Egypt (exploring the Biblical plagues and fall of Cleopatra), and finally the rise of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
In addition to his dark takes on these well known tales, Antony is a masterful visual and musical artist. Every single costume, prop, and scenery element on his stage carries meaningful symbolism and careful craftsmanship. Look out for hieroglyphics, recreations of genuine artifacts, and other calculated totems. Nothing is accidental. Every single piece of this production is playing into the overall story.
That same level of care and expertise also extends to the musical portions of the show. Tales of the Ancient East will include multiple original songs – all accompanied by period-appropriate instruments. But be prepared – these musical experiences do not follow traditional songwriting rules! Working together with the overall story and visual effects, these elements create a truly unparalleled piece of performance art.
“The combination of ancient stories, music, and ritual is designed to transport the audience to another world. It’s a dark, immersive experience, but we’re also having fun with the absurdity of it all,” says Antony Zioni, creator of the production. “What’s more terrifying than the ancient rituals? Maybe the fact that when the dead rise, they don’t come back with good news.”
Are you ready for your personal encounter with the deity of death? Don’t miss Tales of the Ancient East!
