(Orlando, FL) After over 20 spectacular years, Play-In-A-Day (PIAD) is making a thrilling comeback with new energy and an all-star cast of artists. Transitioning from the beloved helm of Beth Marshall to the dynamic new producer Clark Levi, PIAD is gearing up for one of its most electrifying events yet, and you won’t want to miss it!
This year, PIAD is heading back to a familiar and cherished venue: the Imagine Performing Arts Center in Oviedo. This venue was the heart of PIAD’s creative energy for two unforgettable years, and with fresh leadership from Sarah Fanok and Steven Johnson, it promises to be even more amazing. James Brendlinger, who has been a significant part of PIAD’s journey, will also return as a judge, adding a special touch to the event!
Mark your calendars for August 17, 2024, at 7:30 PM, and get ready for a night of incredible talent and fun at Imagine Performing Arts Center, located at 1220 Oviedo Mall Boulevard, Oviedo, FL 32765. This year’s event will feature a dazzling lineup of artists, including Fringe favorite Dk Reinemer, Gian Arellano (the writer behind the hit comedy “Milk”), and local celebrity dancer/choreographer Mariana Gonzalez.
PIAD has a rich history of raising hundreds of thousands of dollars and in kind donations for various important causes, including PlayFest, The Trayvon Martin Foundation, Planned Parenthood, and PULSE. This year, funds will again benefit The Center, an LGBTQ+ focused organization in Orlando.
With over 30 new artists joining this year’s event and a vibrant mix of veteran performers, PIAD promises an exhilarating blend of creativity. Artists will have just 24 hours to produce fully staged, 10-minute (or less) works, showcasing their talents in an unforgettable night of theatre, dance, and more.
And remember: while there have been changes throughout the years in structure of the event, a few things always ring true:
-The event has been and will remain an artist volunteer event serving the Central Florida artistic community and giving artists space to create in a fun and unique way.
-Teams work together in a 24-hour format to create 10- minute (or less) fully staged works.
-PIAD benefits and serves all voices with intentionality to amplify a mix of voices from a variety of corners of our Central Florida artistic community.
-Someone is ALWAYS in DRAG!
-PIAD is Fabulous & Does Not Suck!
