(Hollywood, CA) Kosher Salt, a solo production written and performed by local artist Abel Horwitz, will return to Los Angeles with the Hollywood Fringe Festival! Promising to “fix antisemitism in 45 minutes,” Kosher Salt uses a combination of engaging original characters and sobering personal stories for an unabashed look at modern day prejudices.
We were fortunate to see Kosher Salt during its premiere run at Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre. Abel’s clever mixture of lighthearted moments and raw, honest emotion created a remarkable and important production that is sure to spark plenty of worthwhile conversations and dialogue. An accomplished Los Angeles performer, writer, and producer; Abel Horwitz has made quite the impact on the Hollywood stage (and beyond). Kosher Salt
Lasting approximately 45 minutes, Kosher Salt is an authentic and unwavering exploration of the historical contexts and present-day manifestations of one of the oldest forms of prejudice. Using a variety of lively characters including a Hasidic Rabbi, Bar Mitzvah Boy, a certain German Dictator, and a spacefaring, shape-shifting lizard; Abel takes audiences on a compelling and thoughtful journey through contemporary bigotry and bias.
We loved our experience with Kosher Salt. By blending moments of levity and humor with meaningful stories and difficult discussions, Abel gracefully and accessibly illustrates the magnitude and significance of this important topic. The solo show format allows him to share his lived experiences in a striking and impactful way that really does stick with you. It’s been almost two months since my viewing of Kosher Salt, and I’m still thinking about it!
