(Orlando, FL) Orlando Fringe is back with a wide variety of ticketed performances, a free outdoor stage, an eclectic visual art gallery, and kids’ activities. While there’s simply too much Fringe to cover in a single article, we are doing a series of posts about this incredible Orlando event. In this sixth installment for the 2024 season, we are heading into battle with Quill & Thread’s Excellent Journey: A Totally Not Bogus Sword Fighting Adventure!

What is Orlando Fringe?
Quill & Thread’s Excellent Journey: A Totally Not Bogus Sword Fighting Adventure is playing at Orlando Fringe, a two-week theater festival focused on unjuried and uncensored works of performance art. While similar festivals exist all over the world, Orlando Fringe is the longest running event of its kind within the United States. Fringe Festivals are generally known for featuring alternative or experimental pieces of art, so you really never know what you’re going to find!

Quill & Thread’s Excellent Journey: A Totally Not Bogus Sword Fighting Adventure
Thrilling, nostalgic, and hilarious; Quill & Thread’s Excellent Journey: A Totally Not Bogus Sword Fighting Adventure is a 45-minute production featuring gripping sword fights, entertaining characters, and lighthearted fun. Written as a parody of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures, our heroes must confront a variety of classic literary characters in the pursuit of their wildest dream – to become a legendary sword-fighting duo.
Adding to the quirky and unique vibe of this show, Quill & Thread’s Excellent Journey: A Totally Not Bogus Sword Fighting Adventure does NOT take place in a traditional indoor theater. Instead this production is located in a “theater-in-the-round” style outdoor space, nestled in the trees across from the Orlando Family Stage. This innovative venue coupled with the 360° action creates an organic and immersive experience for Quill & Thread’s audiences.

In this parody of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure join our heroes, Quill and Thread, as they dream of becoming the legendary sword-fighting duo known as ‘The Untamed Mustangs’. Inspired by their favorite tales of adventure, Quill, and Thread set out on a hilariously misguided journey. Their quest to learn from the heroes of classic literature leads them to confront absurd and comical misadventures as they stumble through the pages of beloved stories like “The Three Musketeers,” “Cyrano de Bergerac,” and “Romeo and Juliet.” Along the way, they encounter eccentric allies, face unexpected challenges, and deal with the consequences of their actions—all while learning valuable lessons about friendship, bravery, and the true nature of heroism. With humor, heart, and sheer determination, Quill and Thread’s epic journey promises laughs, thrills, and plenty of totally not bogus sword-fighting action as they strive to become the most heroic sword fighting duo ever.

Getting Tickets to Quill & Thread’s Excellent Journey: A Totally Not Bogus Sword Fighting Adventure
There are still four more chances to see Quill & Thread’s Excellent Journey: A Totally Not Bogus Sword Fighting Adventure (May 25-26). To buy your tickets and plan your Fringe outing, visit the Orlando Fringe virtual box office.
Because 100% of the base ticket price is given directly to the respective artists, you will also need to purchase a reusable 2024 Fringe Festival button. Buttons are $10 and grant access to all the performances at this year’s event (along with an individually purchased show ticket). No matter how many productions you plan to see, you only need one button per person, per year.

- Parking at Orlando Fringe can be tricky. Make sure you arrive early to allow plenty of time to locate a suitable spot and travel to the show location.
