Always presenting experiential and fascinating theater productions, Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group is now showing the world premiere of Abel Horwitz’s one-man production, Kosher Salt! Described as a show that will “solve antisemitism in 45 minutes,” this play combines comedic moments, sobering personal narratives, and an unabashed look at the most offensive Jewish stereotypes to create a beautifully arranged discussion about hatred, discrimination, and other hard-to-address topics.
We were so happy to attend last night’s showing of Kosher Salt. It was a touching show, using a perfectly timed blend of lighter moments and dark topics to address its core issues. Let’s dive in to Kosher Salt and all you can expect from this poignant and captivating production.

About Abel Horwitz’s Kosher Salt
Created by Zombie Joe’s veteran writer and performer Abel Horwitz (other writer and performer credits include: Abandon, Urban Death, and The Thin Veil), Kosher Salt is an honest look at one of the oldest forms of prejudice. Using a variety of characters including a Hasidic Rabbi, Bar Mitzvah Boy, a certain German Dictator, and a spacefaring, shape-shifting lizard; Abel takes audiences through a compelling journey through historical contexts, present day antisemitism, and the modern Jewish experience. Lasting approximately 45 minutes, this show is non-stop in its entertainment quality and thought-provoking moments.

A simply beautiful production, Kosher Salt uses moments of levity and grace to artfully tackle challenging discussions of contemporary bigotry and bias. The one-man format allows Abel to tell his personal stories of antisemitism in a striking and touching way, and the experience will stick with me for a long time. Abel has created an important production, and I highly recommend you check it out!
