Written by local performer Jeremiah Gibbons and produced by the ever innovative Phoenix Tears Productions, Ophelia is now running at the Fringe ArtSpace in Downtown Orlando! Following the title character’s struggle to balance the expectations of men and pressures of the feminine experience, Ophelia hopes to spark productive, societal conversations about women and the unique issues they encounter.
About Ophelia
A full-length musical production, Ophelia features lively characters, unforgettable original songs, comedic moments, and tragic themes. Telling the story of Shakespeare’s Hamlet from his lover’s perspective, Ophelia must appease the conflicting wishes of her father, her brother, and of course, her beloved Hamlet. Driven to a nearby garden, Ophelia finds a group of beautiful flowers – each equipped with their own ideas of womanhood and the best choices for Ophelia’s vital crossroads.
Ophelia Preshow
In true Phoenix Tears Productions style (this woman-led theater company specializes in immersive and out-of-the-box storytelling), Ophelia features an interactive preshow. Make sure you arrive early for your chance to meet and chat with the garden flowers!

Freaky Thoughts: Ophelia Written by Jeremiah Gibbons
What an interesting new take on an over 400-year-old story! I’ve seen lots of William Shakespeare adaptations, but I’ve honestly never seen anything quite like Ophelia. I really enjoyed the combination of catchy songs, funny moments, and thoughtful symbolism. Plus, the addition of the interactive preshow gives Ophelia a distinctive atmosphere that you won’t readily find in another production. If you enjoy one-of-a-kind theater, locally produced shows, and Shakespearean themes, make sure to check out Ophelia at the Fringe ArtSpace before December 18!
