A brand new, immersive phone call theater production from Phoenix Tears; The Ritual brings audiences into an intense, otherworldly struggle with an unseen, evil being. Following on the heels of last summer’s AI: Perfect Partner, The Ritual involves individualized conversation, crafted sound effects, and, of course, a sacred protection ceremony

Last week, I had the awesome opportunity to experience The Ritual and try to escape the grasp of the ominous Eaglaith. Having also experienced their former phone call-based show, I can tell you that I adore this innovative performance medium. It’s a totally new way to enjoy an immersive theater production – right in your own home. Plus, the delightfully spooky vibes are the perfect way to celebrate the coming of the Halloween season.
Thank you, Phoenix Tears, for inviting me to complete The Ritual! Now, let’s dive into the horrifying world of Eaglaith, the eldritch terror!
About Phoenix Tears Productions

The Ritual was created by the brilliant and creative minds at Phoenix Tears Productions. I’m a huge fan of this company and their immersive, theatrical works. If you’re new to Phoenix Tears, let me introduce you to this incredible, Orlando-based and woman-led theater company.
Specializing in immersive storytelling and innovative performance methods, Phoenix Tears is well known throughout the Central Florida creative community. Using out-of-the-box mediums and settings, I have previously experienced Phoenix Tears’ 360º walking audio dramas (guests wear headphones while moving and interacting with physical spaces) and Zoom-based performances. With every production, Phoenix Tears manages to create enveloping worlds, engaging storylines, and extraordinary experiences. The Ritual

An individually focused, phone call-based production, The Ritual is based in a world of paranormal occurrences, dangerous entities, and terrifying encounters. A ghostly force (the aforementioned Eaglaith) is after you and your friend Devlin holds the only key to your escape. Devlin calls to lead you through this necessary ceremony and free you from Eaglaith’s grasp, but will she be able to save you in time?
How It Works
Booking Your Ritual
With showtimes currently posted from October 7-9 and October 28-November 5, you can book your Ritual experience on the Phoenix Tears’ website. Please make sure to pick a date and time that allows you to be in a private location with space to move around and plenty of access to your own items and materials.
Before The Ritual
Prior to your booked showtime, you will receive an email from Devlin. This message contains vital information, including a list of the objects you will need to complete the ceremony.
Prepping for your Ritual

Before your scheduled call, make sure you have all the listed items and enough space to adequately perform the ritual ceremony. You can use the floor or a large table, but you’ll want to ensure you have plenty of space to move around and to situate items in the necessary arrangement.
Like many of Phoenix Tears’ productions, you get out of it what you put in to it. Be ready to actively discuss your fears with a live performer and physically conduct the ritual ceremony.
What To Expect During The Ritual

Finally! It’s time for your much anticipated Ritual and hopeful freedom from the pursuit of Eaglaith! At the appointed time, sit down in a quiet area. You will receive a call from an unknown number to begin your experience.
As you start your approximately 15-30 minute phone call, you’ll begin with a short conversation to familiarize yourself with Devlin and the need for this ceremony. You are an active piece in this story, so be prepared to participate in the conversation and to answer questions. Devlin will soon direct you how to use your gathered items and when to complete The Ritual. This experience utilizes an organic phone conversation, personalized interactions with a live performer, and sound effects to create an incredibly immersive theater production – right in your own home!
Freaky Thoughts: The Ritual by Phoenix Tears Productions
As a huge fan of Phoenix Tears and their previous works, I am so impressed by their ability to create seemingly organic stories with unlikely mediums. Much like their Zoom-based Posthumous shows, The Ritual smoothly integrates its chosen performance style (in this case, a phone conversation) into the overall story – making the entire experience even more striking and memorable!
The Ritual is a perfect and spooky addition to your October celebrations. DO NOT MISS this uniquely terrifying experience by Phoenix Tears!
