During a recent trip to Las Vegas, we were so excited to check out Escape IT’s remarkably themed and terrifying escape experiences. It’s such an amazing attraction, and I cannot wait to tell you about it. Thank you, Escape IT, for having us out!

About Escape IT
Spanning more than 30,000 square feet, Escape IT is a totally unique kind of horror attraction. Featuring two distinct escape adventures (Chapter 1 and Chapter 2), each option includes detailed scenery, surprising jump scares, and wildly impressive special effects. In Chapter 1, guests are dropped into the middle of the Derry sewer system to search for missing and lost children. In Chapter 2, players visiting Derry for their high school reunion must band together to fight the returning evil force of Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
In addition to the highly themed and completely unforgettable escape rooms, Escape IT offers an arcade, gift shop, and the Derry Historical Museum.
Arrival and Check In
When you arrive at Escape IT, you are immediately immersed into the Township of Derry and its unique situation. Instead of finding a building marked with obvious signage and a Pennywise-shaped facade, you’ll find an unassuming entrance to either the Derry Public Works Facility or the Jade Of The Orient Chinese Restaurant.
After parking your car, check in with a “night watch” staff member and head inside the Capitol Theater Lobby. You’ll need to fill out a waiver, put on a name tag, and wait for your experience to begin!
The Escape IT Experience
Whether you’ve chosen Chapter 1 or Chapter 2 (or get a combo package and do both!), your experience will start with a short video briefing detailing the rules of the escape room and the basics of what you might expect inside. Once the video is over, it’s time for your adventure to begin!
Chapter 1 vs Chapter 2
While this is a spoiler-free review, I do want to give you an overview of what you can expect in each of these unique escape experiences so that you can make the best decision for you and your group.
Chapter 1
In Chapter 1, guests are charged with the task of exploring the Derry sewer system to find the city’s missing children. Containing a mixture of iconic movie locations (such as the infamous Neibolt house) and original spaces, this room included a variety of challenging escape room puzzles and breathtaking show elements.
Chapter 2
Ready for your high school reunion? Taking place 27 years after the events of the first room, Chapter 2 includes another trip to the Neibolt House and even more familiar film locations like the Jade Of The Orient Chinese Restaurant and the Derry Canal Days Festival.
While both rooms include live actors, immersive sets, special effects, challenging puzzles, jump scares, and animatronics; there are some key differences between the two experiences. In my opinion, Chapter 1 included more traditional (and perhaps slightly more challenging) escape room tasks. Chapter 2, while still including plenty of escape room type obstacles, felt more like an integrated experience with the puzzles feeling slightly more organic to the storyline.
Both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 include striking scenes and unforgettable moments that I really don’t want you to miss. If it’s at all possible, I highly recommend that you purchase a combo ticket (or simply come back two separate days) and complete both escape experiences – especially if you’re a big Stephen King or Pennywise fan.
But What If I Can Only Visit One Room?
With that being said, I recognize that due to time or financial constraints – it may not be possible to experience both escape adventures. If you can only choose a single Chapter, then I urge you to consider one question – Are you primarily an escape room enthusiast or haunted attraction aficionado?
If you are primarily an escape room fan that wishes to conquer this type of unique attraction, then I suggest you choose Chapter 1. As I mentioned, it is filled with more traditional and slightly more challenging escape room type tasks. But if you are primarily a haunted house fanatic or horror fan, then I suggest you splurge on Chapter 2. As the newer of the two rooms, Chapter 2 features more integrated show elements, more scares, and a terrifying overall experience.
Derry Historical Museum
After escaping Pennywise the Dancing Clown, you’ll enter a large area with an arcade, retail space, and even the Derry Historical Museum! This free-to-peruse museum includes photo opportunities. IT-inspired artwork, film props, and movie memorabilia.

The Freaky Thought: Escape IT
As a huge haunted house fan and horror attraction fanatic, Escape IT might be my favorite escape room EVER! While I personally preferred the scares and theming of Chapter 2, I also adored the iconic imagery and overall creepiness of Chapter 1. Both rooms offered striking visuals, engaging character interactions, immersive sets, and plenty of scares! Do NOT MISS Escape IT!
