Dedicated to the prevention and ultimate elimination of suicide amongst the young LGBTQ community, The Trevor Project provides important and lifesaving programs throughout the United States. Featuring options such as free crisis counseling, online education, and virtual communities; The Trevor Project is constantly working to create a more inclusive and welcoming world. And with an estimated 1.8 million young queer and questioning people considering suicide each year, there is a huge national need for this vital organization.
In celebration of Pride month and the #HHNatHome fundraiser (organized by our friends at Horror Night Nightmares), we are honored to present this feature article exploring some of The Trevor Project’s most necessary programming and ways that you can help support this important cause. Let’s take a closer look at The Trevor Project!
The Trevor Project: Lifesaving and Community-Growing Programming

Focused on its mission to end suicide amongst the young queer community and to create a more accepting and inclusive world, The Trevor Project offers a variety of free programming and resources.
Crisis Counselors

Perhaps its most important program, The Trevor Project offers absolutely free crisis counseling. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year – clients can contact counselors via voice call, text message, or online chat. All counselors are extensively trained and sessions are 100% confidential and safe. If you need help from one of The Trevor Project’s volunteer counselors, please visit thetrevorproject.org/get-help.
TrevorSpace

For those looking for peer support, TrevorSpace is an online community exclusively focused on LGBTQ individuals between the ages of 13-24. With over 400,000 members interacting in closely moderated areas, there’s plenty of opportunity for participants to find friendship, advice, and to explore their identity in a safe, virtual space.
If you are between the ages of 13-24 and identify with the LGBTQ community, you can join TrevorSpace on the organization’s website.
Community Education

But what about straight allies, family members, or other individuals looking for guidance and advice? The Trevor Project regularly publishes informative articles and other written materials educating the public on important topics like supporting bisexual youth, pronoun etiquette, and other helpful guides. These resources can help well meaning family members and friends best support their LGBTQ loved ones. Check out The Trevor Project’s Resource Center at thetrevorproject.org/resources/
How You Can Help

But like any charitable organization, The Trevor Project can only achieve its mission through the generous support of passionate volunteers and dedicated donors. There are several ways you can help The Trevor Project!
Volunteer as a Crisis Counselor!

No matter where you live, you can help LGBTQ youth as a Lifeline Volunteer Counselor. Choosing between a phone-based commitment or digital (TrevorChat/TrevorText) assistance, The Trevor Project provides comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure their volunteers are set up for success! Please consider donating your time to this important cause. Just one dedicated volunteer can help up to 100 people that wouldn’t otherwise be supported.
Donate to The Trevor Project!

Whether you are looking to make an individual contribution or to offer an ongoing corporate partnership, The Trevor Project has plenty of customizable and flexible donation plans and pledges. You can even give via cryptocurrency on their website!
