Yesterday, we got to attend a special ribbon cutting ceremony for a brand new train attraction at the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens! Sponsored by Vystar Credit Union, Wharton-Smith, Inc., and D&A Building Services, this ride will bring families through natural Florida landscapes, realistic train crossings, and into the open air train depot near the Zoo’s entrance. We had such a great time learning about the train and the fun it will bring to park visitors. Thank you, Central Florida Zoo, for inviting us out!

“It’s always exciting when we can bring something new to the Zoo,” said Richard E. Glover, Jr., the Zoo’s CEO. “We know the families and community members who love the Zoo will be excited to have this attraction back and will look forward to taking a ride on our new train.”
About the New Central Florida Zoo Train

Named The Champion, this beautiful, miniature train was originally constructed in 2021. Modeled after a real Atlantic Coast Line Railroad streamliner, The Champion is built to one-quarter scale of the fully-sized locamotive.
Ahead of The Champion‘s opening, Zoo staff updated and renovated all of the existing tracks while working with state officials and inspectors to ensure a safe operating experience.

How To Ride The New Train

Located near the park entrance, train rides are $5 per person ($4 if you’re a zoo member). Vystar Credit Union customers will receive a $1 discount on their ticket. The train runs every thirty minutes from 10am-3:30pm with each ride lasting about 8 minutes.
“Families across Central Florida love coming to the Zoo and riding the train,” said Albert Sarabasa, CEO of D&A Building Services and longtime Zoo board member. “We are as excited as everyone to have our family and yours enjoy the train once again.”

Due to unfavorable weather conditions, I was unable to ride the train during yesterday’s opening ceremony. However, I look forward to returning to the Zoo to try out this exciting attraction. Stay tuned for a follow up article all about my experience on The Champion!
