Splash Mountain officially closed January 23rd, 2023. The nostalgic log flume ride shut down to make way for Disney’s re-imagining of the ride to include one of their popular princesses. Deconstruction is now underway to bring Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to life. The new ride will incorporate the them from Disney’s Princess and the Frog.
Splash Mountain opened at Magic Kingdom all the way back on October 2nd, 1992. When Disney announced Splash Mountain was closing people flocked to Magic Kingdom to buy up all the merchandise they could find. The final week fans came out to get in one final ride and waited hours at some points. The coolest thing was Disney gave cast members the final rides before shutting the doors forever.
Splash Mountain now joins the archive with the likes of Snow White’s Scary Adventures and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride to name a couple. Walt Disney himself said “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as their is imagination left in the world.” The same can be said for Disney World.
