Known for its psychics, mediums, and spiritual communities; the small town of Cassadaga is an incredibly unique area of Volusia County. Located just off of I-4, visitors to this fascinating neighborhood can schedule a personalized reading, attend a séance, explore a haunted history museum, or learn about the area’s myths and legends. A local landmark, Hotel Cassadaga offers a variety of events and services – including an annual spooky attraction taking place directly on the resort’s grounds.
In 2022, that attraction was operated by Frightmaze – a creative, horror-based company located in Merritt Island. Regular readers of my blog will remember Frightmaze from my coverage of their previous Halloween and Valentine’s Day events.

We were thrilled and honored to be invited to attend Cassadaga Haunted Attraction’s final weekend. As huge fans of the Frightmaze company, it was a real treat to revisit their intense event in a brand new venue. Thank you, Frightmaze, for inviting us out!
About Frightmaze

Previously operating out of the Merritt Island Square Mall, Frightmaze Productions is an important piece of the Central Florida spooky landscape. Having attended their 2020 “House of Voodoo” Halloween haunt and 2021’s Valentine’s themed “Love Bites,” I have long appreciated Frightmaze’s ingenuity, original storylines, innovative sets, and creative thinking. If you’d like to learn more about Frightmaze’s team and other initiatives, check out their website.
About Cassadaga Hotel

Offering resort stays, healing services, and specialized readings in a historic setting, Hotel Cassadaga is located in the middle of this spiritualist community. Built in 1927, you can learn more about its available accommodations and events on the hotel’s website.
Lobotomy

For the 2022 spooky season, Frightmaze Productions takes guests into an all-new, gruesome story. Step through the doors and into the horrifying and fragmented thoughts of a lobotomy patient. Using live actor interactions, creative scares, and gory scenery; this haunted attraction provides a terrifying and memorable journey.
Starting your adventure in a hospital setting, you’ll first meet a crazed physician ready to literally open up your mind. Moving through the rest of the maze, you’ll find an assortment of frightening scenes including a clown room, graveyard, butcher shop, and more.

Using a combination of indoor rooms and outdoor areas, the haunt took about 11 minutes for us to complete. Others’ experiences may vary, however, as actors will engage in personalized conversations and interactions with willing guests. The sheer variety of scenes, settings, and characters added to the storytelling, disorientation and creepiness of the experience. Plus, this attraction had plenty of scares! The performers brought a great deal of energy and attention to their roles, constantly watching for the best opportunity to startle and petrify haunt-goers.
Freaky Thoughts: Cassadaga Haunted Attraction and Frightmaze

As a huge fan of Frightmaze and its Merritt Island haunts, I was so excited to experience another of its awesome attractions. I adored the creative storyline of the maze, personalized performer interactions, and intense scares. “Lobotomy” was well worth the drive from Orlando, and I hope to experience another Frightmaze creation very soon!
Where Can I See Frightmaze Next?

The 2022 haunt season is over (and so is “Lobotomy”), but you can still catch Frightmaze at three upcoming Renaissance Faires and Festivals. First check out the SunCoast Renaissance Festival. Running select dates from November 17- December 11, the festival will include a variety of live entertainment and specialized vendors. In 2023, you can find Frightmaze at the Brevard Renaissance Fair starting in early January and the Bay Area Renaissance Festival from February 18 – April 2.
