As a horror enthusiast and haunted house fan, I always look forward to the annual Halloween festivities at Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail. With three original mazes, live walk-around entertainment, and premium add-on experiences; Sir Henry’s consistently offers high quality scares and spooky stories. And with the past year’s massive renovations and trail upgrades, this attraction is bigger and better than ever before!
We were so excited to visit Sir Henry’s this past weekend and check out the new trails, updated sets, and latest experiences at this one-of-a-kind local attraction. Let’s explore The Dark Side of Fear at this year’s Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail:
The Haunted Trails
Like any spooky attraction, the heart of Sir Henry’s lies within its three terrifying and original haunted trails. Featuring detailed sets, special effects, creative scare tactics, gruesome costumes, and passionate performers; these trails present dynamically different story and character styles for a well-rounded evening of horror:
Headless

In a small sleepy town, there exists the legend of General Hanover’s Treasure. The general was famous for his brutality during the Revolutionary War, slaying his victims and taking a piece of their spine to fashion into a whip and stowing away whatever valuables he found on them. After meeting his end with a beheading by a cannonball, rumors circulated about where he hid his stolen riches but it was never discovered. Now, many years later, a massive manhunt was brought together to find this treasure once and for all. But when some villagers got too close to finding it, the headless ghost of General Hanover began to appear in the graveyard, mounted on a tall dark horse. Warding off all those who sought his treasure and decapitating those that crossed his path. Will you dare to face the horseman for his treasure? Or will you too become headless?
Undergoing the most extensive renovations of the three trails, “Headless” is an intense journey through a detailed village. Weaving in and out of storefronts, traveling through seemingly full-sized church buildings, and wandering into forgotten woods; this trail made me feel as if I was really exploring a cursed town – looking for the General’s treasure. I think it is the most breathtakingly beautiful of the three trails, and I loved it!
To avoid spoilers, guests are not allowed to take pictures inside the haunts. However, Sir Henry’s did post this picture of the renovated set on its social media. Take a look:

While this trail has always impressed me with its aesthetic details and gorgeous imagery, the new improvements have dramatically increased its immersion and overall beauty. Don’t miss “Headless” at this year’s event!
Final Cut

Rising silent era starlet Joan Parker has purchased herself a mansion with a dark history. The former resident was an actress who after years and years of failed attempts to reach fame, killed herself in the home. At first glance the mansion was bare and empty, except for a large statue in the cellar. Strange things began to happen in the few weeks of living in her new home, noises coming from nowhere, objects disappearing and reappearing, a feeling of constantly being watched, and the statue strangely seeming to come alive. Now, you are invited to Joan’s Movie Premiere Party. But beware to accept this invitation for the entity of the dead actress has overcome Joan to wreak havoc on her party. Will you fall victim to its ghostly possession?

With major renovations to the interior of this spooky mansion-themed trail, you will barely recognize many of its rooms and furnishings. “Final Cut” included several creative jump scares, using unexpected hiding places and specially crafted nooks. And with the addition of brand new effects, this trail is the scariest of Sir Henry’s 2022 offerings!
Rapture Of The Deep

The fishing town of Portsmouth’s successful market has been legendary for as long as anyone can remember. Unbeknown to outsiders, over a century ago the town made a deal with a Sea Witch to sacrifice a human life to her sea creature every year in exchange for a lucrative harvest and favorable seas. Unfortunately, due to Captain Jonah’s return from the dead, the townsfolk missed the day of the sacrifice and now the Sea Witch has unleashed her wrath. Her sea creature has been released along with it’s spawn and together they are swallowing Portsmouth brick by brick. Will you join the townsfolk at the bottom of the ocean? Or will you escape the clutches of the Kraken?

My absolute favorite of this year’s trails, “Rapture of the Deep” is not afraid to take a deeper dive into ocean-themed horror. Starting in the unlucky town of Portsmouth, guests will travel through boat docks, bait houses, and more until they find themselves at the bottom of the unforgiving sea. I won’t spoil what creatures you may find there, but it filled my nerdy, fish-loving heart!
Beyond the Trails

Besides Sir Henry’s haunted trails and spooky stories, guests can enjoy live entertainment and premium attractions. Let’s take a look at some of these accompanying experiences:
Live Entertainment

Between trails enjoy some of the live entertainment in Sir Henry’s central courtyard. Walking around the common areas, you’ll find a variety of live performers and scaractors – including Sir Henry himself! Offering fun photo opportunities and bonus scares, these characters add a definite dose of welcome terror in addition to the main trails.

Premium Attractions
To add a bit more fear to your evening, consider one of Sir Henry’s premium attractions. For an extra fee, you can battle your friends in a game of laser tag, conquer an escape room (or two), or try your hand at axe throwing.
Escape Rooms

For the first time, Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail features two escape games: Cavities and Bloody Headlines. In Cavities, guests will work together to elude a candy corn killer named Cob. In Bloody Headlines, participants will solve a series of riddles in order to reveal the identity of a mysterious serial killer. Players have three minutes to complete each escape room. Games costs $5 per person, and tickets can be purchased onsite.
Vengeance Laser Tag

Battle it out with your friends and family at Vengeance Laser Tag. Game tickets cost $5 per player and can be purchased at Sir Henry’s Swag Shop.
Axe Throwing

Take your best shot at Sir Henry’s Axe Throwing booth! At $5 for 9 throws, guests can try their hand at hurling (blunt, plastic) weapons at small targets. It’s fun to see how close to the bullseye you can get. Spoiler alert: I’m not very good at this!

Sir Henry’s Swag Shop

Don’t forget to check out the newly expanded gift store and merchandise selection at Sir Henry’s Swag Shop. In addition to laser tag, escape room, and axe throwing tickets; you’ll find branded items like assorted clothing, lapel pins, candles, accessories, and other household goods.

Sir Henry’s Boos

In partnership with Keel Farms in Plant City, grab a bottle of Sir Henry’s Twisted Apple Cider! A fall drink with hints of caramel, you can purchase this beverage as well as other Sir Henry’s branded goods during your visit.
