Whether you’re taking a break from your day in the theme parks or exploring Universal Orlando’s vibrant entertainment district, CityWalk hosts a variety of full service and quick service dining options. One of the newest eateries to arrive on the CityWalk scene is a unique counter service restaurant with open air seating – Bend The Bao!
Bend The Bao Menu
Featuring a wide range of bao bun (steamed buns filled with savory meats and vegetables) varieties, Bend the Bao includes options for meat-eaters, seafood fans, and vegetarians. *Please note: There are no vegan food options on this menu.* As of 2022, you can order two buns for $11.99 with the option of adding a third for $4.49. The menu does not include any side items or other snacks to pair with your meal.

Bend The Bao also features a selection of Japanese beers and sake for an extra bit of refreshment.

My Experience
Knowing that two bao would not be enough food for me, I decided to order three buns. As a big seafood and vegetarian fare enthusiast, I chose the Veggie Bao (with spinach, mushrooms, and ricotta cheese), the Shrimp Bao (with pico de Gallo and chipotle cream), and the Crab Cake Bun (with diced tomato and mustard aioli).

All of my selected buns were very appetizing. The shellfish was cooked well and the vegetables tasted fresh. I do want to point out that all of my selections (and many of the buns on the overall menu) include unexpected ingredients to create a very non-traditional taste profile. For example, the ricotta cheese and tomatillo salsa in the Veggie Bao created an interesting and unique flavor that you won’t necessarily find in other bao-centered restaurants.

Freaky Thoughts: Bend The Bao
If you’re looking for a quick yet out-of-the-box theme park meal, this is the place! Three bao buns were filling enough to keep me satisfied and the selection was very different than normal theme park fare. However, if you’re looking for the best value at CityWalk – this isn’t it. Other quick and counter service restaurants within the entertainment complex will offer more food for a similar price point. It really comes down to what type of meal you are craving.
