Wave Asian Bistro & Sushi in Mt. Dora serves a variety of beautiful and traditional Pacific-inspired dishes, such as ramen, bulgogi, and poke. But what they are most known for is their innovative approach to sushi.
Serving a variety of creative sushi dishes, such as sushi burgers, burritos, hot dogs, and even pizza – wave creates colorful and delicious meals for fish lovers. As a huge sushi fan myself, I just had to make the drive to historic Mt. Dora to check out this awesome menu!
Wave Asian Bistro & Sushi – The Appetizers!
We decided to prep for our sushi adventure by enjoying a few appetizers. I tried the Avocado Fries and Spicy Butter Crab Bao Bun!

Despite the famously mild flavor of the avocado, these fries were pretty flavorful! The breading is light and well-seasoned, complimenting the soft avocado within. Additionally, I felt like this dish was just barely fried – enough that there was a definite crunch but not so cooked that the avocado changed texture. I could have eaten plenty more of it – but I had another appetizer to conquer!

Wow! I LOVED this bao bun! The bread was slightly crisp with a hint of sweetness, which paired well with the spicy krab. But – while I’m on that subject – there isn’t much actual heat to this dish, so don’t let the word “spicy” scare you. It was served with drawn butter on the side, so you can control how much is added to your bun. I tried a little bit on one bite but ultimately this dish didn’t need any more flavor. It’s pretty perfect as is!

Wave Asian Bistro & Sushi – The Sushi!
When I order sushi, I am always looking for the option that gives me as much fish and vegetables as humanly possible without all of the extra additions like sauces or crunchy bits. I’m a purist and genuinely enjoy the flavor of the raw fish without too much distraction, so for me – the right choice was definitely the Rainbow Sushi Burrito with salmon, tuna, and albacore along with a medley of vegetables like mixed greens, red cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, and avocado.

My friend likes a little more pizzazz with her fish, so she ordered the Slammin’ Salmon Sushi Burrito with cream cheese, tempura flakes, spicy mayo, and many of the same vegetables.

Burritos aren’t your thing? Don’t worry! If you enjoy raw fish, there’s a sushi-based concoction for you!
Here are some of the other creative options you can try at Wave Bistro:
Sushi Burgers
Wave’s sushi burgers come with a variety of fish, vegetables, and fixings between two rice and nori “buns.” Varieties include spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy krab.

Sushi Donuts
This innovation includes sushi rice topped with tuna, salmon, and avocado. Each one is filled with your choice of spicy krab, spicy tuna, or avocado.

Sushi Pizza
Using a sushi roll as the crust and various toppings as the base, Wave has created a beautiful combination of two of my favorite comfort foods: sushi and cold pizza (yes, it has to be cold). Wave offers four options for your slice, including a vegetarian selection, tuna supreme, and poke.

And Finally – The Sushi Hot Dog!
Using a sliced, tempura fried spicy krab roll as the “bun,” Wave offers two variations of this dish. The Poke Dog includes cubed tuna and salmon while the Sushi Hot Dog features spicy tuna.
