Meet Jackie Sonnenberg
A Chicago-area transplant, Jackie Sonnenberg is a local fiction author and performer. With a background in journalism (She has written for multiple Chicago area newspapers such as The Daily Herald, The Chicago Tribune and The News-Sun.), Jackie soon began writing nonfiction reference books for publishers requesting content on a variety of subjects – such as how to introduce a puppy into a previously all-cat family. As her talents and creativity evolved and developed, Jackie found a true calling with character creation and fiction writing… but more on that a little later.
Getting into Horror

Before moving to Orlando, Jackie found a passion in performance – specifically haunted attractions and experiences. While working at an Illinois dystopian laser tag company called Zombie Outbreak, she was offered (and accepted) the opportunity to move to Florida and join the inaugural team of an additional location on International Drive. Unfortunately, the attraction closed a few years later. While Zombie Outbreak did not find success with a Florida audience, Jackie definitely did. Becoming a well-known performer within the Orlando haunt community, Jackie has performed at Shallow Grave, Scream N’ Stream, and Dark Horizon.
Combining Her Passions – Writing and Character Development
Combining her love of horror characters and creative writing, Jackie created an expansive library of horror-themed tales. She has contributed to multiple horror anthologies, such as 2018’s Carnival of Fear and the multiple variations of the 13 anthology series.
But she’s also created a series of standalone stories inspired by classic nursery rhymes. Called Semyhr Yresrun (nursery rhymes spelled backwards), this series currently includes three novels:
My Soul To Keep
Featuring cult themes and spiritual overtones, the first installment of the series has a 4.5 star rating on Amazon!
Connection to “the other side” is tested on a small prep school campus…where spirits may or may not have been seen roaming the dorms and sidewalks. The campus spirituality group seems to be the answer Sky Monroe is looking for. She has her own reason to want to be in touch with the spiritual world…but it might not be what she bargained for…and she might not be able to turn back.
The Lamb Was Sure to Go
The below description pretty much says it all for this creepy variation on “Mary Had A Little Lamb.”
A priest has foreboding visions of evil…of the Antichrist itself born to bring Hell on Earth. Accused of being mad, he is locked away in an asylum while the Antichrist grows stronger. He knows he is the one to stop it…but he never thought he would be up against a little girl and her pet lamb…
The Little Dog Laughed
Her most recent work, The Little Dog Laughed was published in February 2020.
Felicity gets a new life of riches for herself when she marries into a very wealthy family…who also happen to be vampires. As a struggling teenage mother she is terrified they will never accept her so she hides her son Isaac away in secret. It is not until she discovers Isaac is a rare blood type the family craves, so she raises him as a private blood donor without anyone knowing. But, sometimes good blood can go bad, and there is something else brewing inside of Isaac…
As part of her character development and creative book promotion, Jackie often attends horror and fandom events for book signings, interviews, or just to roam the convention floor – cosplaying as one of her original characters!
