Beginning October 1 and running for 18 months, Walt Disney World will mark its 50th anniversary with the “World’s Most Magical Celebration.” So far, we know the festivities will include some beautiful new decorations and costumes.
Cinderella’s Castle will receive new, shimmering decorations (like gold bunting and embellishments) and lights – adding some beauty to both the daytime and nighttime ambience.
The rest of the park “icons” will get special themed light displays for some nighttime magic. From Disney’s announcement:
- At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, a warm light will emanate from the Tree of Life as magical fireflies gather to usher in the magic of nature.
- The Hollywood Tower Hotel at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be awash in a brilliance evoking the golden age of imagination and adventure.
- And at EPCOT, new lights will shine across the reflective panels of Spaceship Earth, connecting to one another in a symbol of optimism resembling stars in a nighttime sky. The iconic structure’s permanent new lighting will continue beyond “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” as a defining feature of the park.
Mickey and Minnie will receive special costumes for the occasion! I have to admit – Mickey’s Cinderella Castle jacket and special 50th pin are STUNNING!
And apparently that’s it? Nothing else has been announced yet, but I’m crossing my fingers more information will come our way soon.
