The Museum of Illusions Orlando is now open at ICON Park (the same place you can find The Wheel)! Earlier this week, Orlando Decoded had the awesome opportunity to experience this attraction, and it is a BLAST! With eye-tricking, brain-teasing fun; the Museum of Illusions is a unique and fascinating addition to the International Drive entertainment corridor.
Join me on a visit to this Instagram-worthy museum!
About Museum of Illusions Orlando
With locations all over the world, the Museum of Illusions Orlando is the first Florida installment of this attraction. The Museum includes 50 exhibits ranging from optical illusion photographs and framed holograms to fully sized rooms and sets ready to be explored!
Arrival and Entry
Upon entering the museum, you will find a posted guide explaining their general rules and helpful hints.

Pay attention to the two icons at the bottom! For the best snapshots, you’ll want to stand in the right places!
Moving through the Museum
The museum is set up as a giant, one-way loop through the building. The path takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete – depending on how many pictures you take (probably a lot) and the amount of people in the attraction.
The illusions are not necessarily arranged in any sort of specific order. However, I did feel like the beginning and end of the path were focused on smaller illusions (Ex: a photograph hanging on the wall) while many of the large-scale exhibits and picture backdrops were concentrated in the middle.
As you move through the museum, don’t forget to read! Each illusion has a written card explaining how to successfully experience the effect as well as the science behind why it works. It is fascinating to learn exactly what is happening to your brain and its perception!

Simplifying Your Visit
Step Stools
The Museum of Illusions wants their guests to focus on the effects, so they have taken multiple steps to proactively make your visit easier and more seamless. For example, many of the exhibits requiring a certain level of height include an available step stool so that kids and shorter guests (like myself!) can participate without worry.

Illusion Tools
This optical illusion requires you to compare the sizes of different objects. For optimum measuring and easy viewing, the museum has attached a helpful tool for your use.

Included Illusion Partners/Photographers
Finally, many of these illusions require two people to successfully operate and enjoy. Additionally, you’ll often need a third person to act as a photographer. Even if you’re traveling alone, however, you don’t need to sit out on the fun. Museum staff are more than happy to join you in an exhibit or snap your photo!

Museum of Illusions Exhibits
There are so many awesome exhibits that it’s impossible to discuss each of them individually. However, I do want to highlight some of the unique photo opportunities waiting inside! Don’t worry. I won’t reveal any secrets about how these illusions work. That would ruin the fun!
Clone Table
Do you talk to yourself? Then you’ll enjoy this opportunity for a face-to-face conversation!

Infinity Room
This room has a physical door, so you’ll literally be surrounded by an apparent eternal floor and ceiling – not to mention more Krysti’s and Orange Bird purses than you could ever want.

Don’t worry about getting lost in such a “large room.” Museum staff have found a clever solution to help you find your way out!
Symmetry Room
This was one of my favorite photos to create! I won’t tell you how, but I am actually that far off the ground! Super fun!

Reversed Room
While this was one of the simplest illusions, it’s a pretty breathtaking effect. Just think of all the fun poses you could do with a group of friends or co-workers!

The Beuchet Chair
While this effect is more fun with two people (and don’t forget a museum staff member can help), it still works with one. Here I am in what appears to be an enormous chair!

And here’s the effect with two people:

Head On The Platter
The name pretty much says it all! As a horror/Halloween fan, this one was my favorite!

Other Exhibits at Museum of Illusions Orlando
The above photo opportunities are just a small sample of what’s waiting for you inside the museum! You’ll also find a huge kaleidoscope, vortex tunnel, optical illusions, and holograms. (You can actually look inside one of the holograms – a microscope – to see what’s being examined!) There’s so much to see and do, and every single exhibit is beyond fascinating.

Freaky Thoughts
While I loved every part of the my trip to the Museum of Illusions, my favorite exhibits were actually the smaller, wall-hanging optical illusions. It was fascinating to find movement or color where I logically knew there should be none. It was an interesting display of mind-trickery, and I would definitely bring my friends and family to experience it too.
If you visit, I highly recommend taking your time in each room and viewing the photographs and pictures more than once. Sometimes if I gave my eyes a break from one exhibit, I would naturally find a whole new perspective upon my return! Truly amazing!
