If you’ve never been to Downtown Winter Garden, you’re truly missing out. Plant Street is full of hidden treasures like fascinating museums, live theater shows, and delicious food. In fact, Downtown has a vast array of local foodie joints and cuisines from which to choose; including gourmet macaroni and cheese, Nashville-style hot wings, specialty hot dogs, ceviche and sushi (that’s not even including the fancier options)! But one of my favorite meals to enjoy in Winter Garden is a hearty breakfast! Here are three of Plant Street’s best breakfast spots!
Axum Coffee
A coffee shop with a mission! After a visit to Axum, Ethiopia, founders Renaut and Brooke van der Riet wanted to find the best way to make a positive difference in their community and the world at large. Knowing that nonprofits, while vital and important pieces of any outreach effort, are difficult and time-consuming to start; the couple began to debate other options. Finally, they found the perfect solution – create a social gathering place for the community to enjoy, provide quality coffee, and use the profits to support worthwhile causes locally and abroad. Today, Axum partners with several organizations fighting homelessness, vulnerable children, the orphan crisis, and water shortages.
As a frequent customer of Axum Coffee, this is one of my favorite spots in Winter Garden. The furniture is cozy. There’s outside seating, and they offer free wifi for those wanting to get a little bit of work done. (I have composed many an article sitting in those comfy seats.)
Axum features an extensive menu of hand-crafted coffee drinks (including seasonal flavors). There’s also a pastry/sandwich case with assorted paninis, wraps, and desserts available for purchase. One of my favorites is the caprese panini with mozzarella cheese, tomato, and pesto! While the exact offerings may vary, I have seen both vegan and gluten-free options during my visits.

Rosallie
Modeled after the cuisine and atmosphere of Southern France, Rosallie offers all day brunch with an upscale atmosphere. You can either choose a selection from their extensive pastry display or order an exquisite option from their menu. Of course, there’s also a wide variety of coffees and wines available.
I don’t visit this location often (mainly because it’s a tad pricey), but I do love their food! Their quiches are the perfect balance of egg, filling, and crust. I’ve never been overwhelmed by one of the three components (unlike other quiches I’ve had where it’s either so eggy I can’t enjoy the filling or there’s too much crust).
I will warn you that their sandwiches are HUGE. I once ordered their EST sandwich (brie cheese). It was served on a sourdough roll, and it was completely overwhelming. There was WAY too much bread, but there was an adequate amount of cheese to balance it out. It was also served with greens that kind of spilled out of the sandwich and made a salad all around my plate.

NY Bagel Deli and Pizza
If you’re looking for a dish that originated a little closer to home, try NY Bagel Deli and Pizza. This restaurant gets its dough shipped directly from New York City, so you know you are getting authentic taste and quality. The cafe offers a wide selection of bagels and made-to-order bagel sandwiches. You can also purchase a dessert from the case (including REAL Junior’s cheesecake).
As a HUGE fan of all cheesecake, I am THRILLED that NY Bagel Deli and Pizza made it to Winter Garden (my waistline maybe not so much)! Their bagels do, indeed, taste exactly like something you would buy in Manhattan. And they have enough variety to satisfy any taste preferences. In the afternoons, they offer New York style pizza. I haven’t been able to try the pizza yet, but I can’t wait to do so!
Pro tip: sometimes they sell leftover bagels at a discount. In the past, I’ve bought a bag of six assorted bagels for just a few dollars. You can’t let them sit around your house for too long, so make sure everyone is hungry before buying!
