As the end of June fast approaches, Walt Disney World prepares to re-open all four theme parks next month. We know that capacity will be limited and reservations will be required to control crowds and demand. Today we learned exactly how this new system will function and the associated changes coming to the theme park experience:
Walt Disney World is Re-Opening! Here are 9 Changes to Expect…
- Guests with existing hotel reservations will be the first to be able to access the new theme park reservation system.
- Walt Disney World Reservations will be made using your personal account on StartYourDisneyExperience.com.
- Link your tickets to your account and add family members.
- Select a date, time, and theme park to reserve (Park hopping will not initially be allowed upon re-opening).
- To enter a theme park, you must have a valid entry ticket/annual pass and a reservation.
- Annual Passholders will be able to book up to two reservations at a time.
- Reservations can be modified subject to availability.

To summarize the new theme park experience, Disney put together this short video:
With this announcement, we also learned that Disney is working on significant improvements to the My Disney Experience smart phone app. While specific improvements were not named, Disney did say that they expect to discontinue the distribution of MagicBands in 2021. Most, if not all, functionality will be replaced with the app. Guests without smart phones or not wishing to use the app will still have the option of receiving a Key to the World card at no extra charge.

We’re in a pandemic, and changes are necessary. It’s a bummer to see so many adjustments to the theme park experience, but it’s important to remember that most of this is temporary.
