With the implementation of Governor DeSantis’ Re-Open Florida Task Force and the involvement of theme park leaders, such as Disney and Universal, there’s been much speculation as to when and how the Orlando attractions will again welcome visitors. During a recent teleconference, Universal CEO John Sprouls revealed some details as to how the theme park experience may change in order to keep guests safe and healthy.
Here’s what we’ve learned:
- Employees directly interacting with guests will receive daily temperature checks as well as PPE, such as masks and gloves.
- Park capacity will be reduced to allow smaller crowds and easier social distancing.
- Virtual queue lines will be utilized to decrease opportunities for close contact.
- Staggered seating and spaced arrangements will be occur on rides, in theaters, and in any queue lines that must be utilized.
- There will be enhanced sanitizing procedures both during and after park hours.
Sprouls did not mention rapid COVID-19 testing for guests as had been rumored based on a leaked online survey.
No re-opening date has been set (but Universal has announced their closure through at least May 31). The Task Force is set to release a report this afternoon. Stay tuned for details.
**Updated to add: DeSantis and his task force do not have a firm date or plan at this time. They will be working on the plan over the weekend as the “Safer at Home” order ends April 30.**
