Premiering April 17, 2020 at Disney Springs, Drawn to Life represents a unique collaboration between Cirque du Soleil, Disney Animation, and Disney Imagineering. Chief Creative Officer of Cirque du Soleil, Diane Quinn, explains, “Interpreting the works from Disney’s spectacular catalogue of animation into a live show was a thrilling opportunity for Cirque du Soleil, and we couldn’t be more proud of this production. Together with Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering, we have created a stunning show that will inspire audiences to dream and reach for the impossible.”
New Adventures Coming to Disney’s Jungle Cruise
At its heart, Drawn to Life Cirque du Soleil is the story of love and grief as a young girl, Julie, mourns the loss of her beloved, animator father. Upon finding one of his unfinished animations, Julie embarks on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Along the way, she’ll encounter new friends, make some enemies, and relive some of her favorite childhood memories with Disney animation.
The story will be told through a total of ten acrobatic acts utilizing a cast of 65 artists. Details for two of the acts were released yesterday. The Inner World of Animation focuses on rhythmic gymnastics.
As the name implies, Aerial Pencil is a standard aerial act – except that it is performed with a solid, pencil-shaped object instead of the traditional scarves or softer mediums.
Here’s a video giving a closer view of the two acts as well as some of the set pieces.
While we still have much to learn about this show, I’m very excited to see such a unique offering coming to Walt Disney World. Cirque du Soleil has created so many amazing productions (“O” at the Bellagio is my favorite!). The graceful, creative nature of a Cirque show combined with beloved Disney animation holds so much promise! Can’t wait to see the finished product!
Drawn to Life will perform two shows daily Tuesday – Saturday. While the show officially premieres on April 17, some preview showings are available. You can buy your tickets through Cirque du Soleil.
