One of the best things about living in Orlando is that it’s always changing! The theme parks are always working on new and exciting attractions, and 2020 is no exception. While we will have to wait for some of the larger announcements – such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Tron Lightcycle Power Run – all three of the major theme park resorts and some smaller entertainment companies will be opening new attractions next year.
Let’s start with some of the smaller upcoming attractions you may not have heard about…
ICON Park – Orlando Slingshot and Gyro Drop Tower
The ICON Park on International Drive is already home to the world’s tallest Starflyer Swings and the largest wheel on the East Coast. The Orlando Slingshot will throw visitors 450 feet in the air – that’s about 50 stories! The Gyro Drop Tower will be the world’s tallest free standing drop tower at 400 feet high. The Tower will lift guests into the air before a free fall of 75 miles an hour!
Orlando Science Center – Pompeii: The Immortal City
This fascinating attraction will hit the Orlando Science Center from June 6 – September 7, 2020. On its tour, this exhibition has received rave reviews, and we are so excited to welcome it to our city.
Universal Studios Florida – Bourne Stuntacular
This live-action stunt show based on the Bourne Identity series will feature high-tech props and special effects for what promises to be a cutting edge experience. While we don’t have a specific opening date, we know it’s planned to open in Spring 2020.
SeaWorld Orlando – Ice Breaker
SeaWorld’s first launch coaster, this ride will feature FOUR backwards and forwards launches as well as a “beyond vertical” 93 foot drop at a 100 degree angle. Based on the concept art we’ve seen (below), I was hoping there would be a show building with some sort of arctic theming element to this ride. So far, we’ve seen no further indication of any theming beyond the name. While this is disappointing, the ride still promises unique thrills and excitement.
Aquatica – Riptide Race
At the top of a 68 foot tower, riders will board dual capacity tubes for an exciting race to the bottom. The slide will feature twists, turns, and portions with low walls so you can keep an eye on your competition!
Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
As previously reported, this much anticipated attraction will open March 4. The first ride to feature Mickey Mouse and his friends, guests will be transported into the crazy world of cartoon vehicles, slapstick comedy, and crazy antics.
Disney’s EPCOT – Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and New World Showcase Films
While this ride will most certainly be a copy of the attraction in Paris’ Walt Disney Studios, it will be a fun addition to the World Showcase. In this ride, guests will board rat-shaped, trackless vehicles and skitter around Gusteau’s kitchen floor.
On January 17, EPCOT will open three new movies in their World Showcase pavilions. China and Canada will get updated circle-vision films while France will receive a “Beauty and the Beast” sing-a-long with new animated scenes!
