I love living in a city with such an eclectic food selection. In the Orlando-area, you can find almost anything from gourmet meatballs to all-vegan restaurants to fresh poke to world-class steakhouses all within 30 minutes of each other. But I have to admit that one genre of food I don’t enjoy nearly as often as I should is Indian food. While part of this may be that my husband doesn’t care for it, I think the major issue is that I’ve tried a couple Orlando Indian restaurants without much success. They weren’t very flavorful, and they just weren’t satisfying…. That is until my friend introduced me to Saffron Indian Cuisine in Dr. Philips.
Saffron is located in a shopping center near the famed “Restaurant Row” on Sand Lake Road. Being so close to this strip of fine restaurants, you may be taken aback by the simplicity of Saffron’s location (as it’s proximal to a Publix grocery store and Tijuana Flats), but you’ll quickly shake off that feeling. Inside, you’ll find a gorgeous dining room decorated with brick and wood. There’s a small bar in the back and plenty of seating for the lunch and dinner crowds.
When you open the menu, you’ll find a wide variety of dishes including vegetarian specialties as well as chicken, lamb, and seafood. While the dinner menu can get a little pricey ($14-$22), their lunch and weekend brunch selections are plentiful. Lunch dishes range from $9-$12, and their weekend champagne brunch buffet starts at $13.95. If you’re worried about portion size, rest assured their lunch plates offer plenty of food to leave you satiated. Lunch entrees come with naan bread, a small bowl of soup, a samosa, and dessert (in this case mango pudding).
Freaky Thoughts: Saffron Indian Cuisine
If you like Indian food, Saffron offers affordable, delicious, and satisfying meals. Since it’s in the Dr. Philips area, it’s conveniently located for those visiting the Universal Orlando Resort and locals will be able to find it easily! Can’t wait for my next visit!
