Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens at Walt Disney World Thursday, August 29 with one ride – Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run. But we all know that a second ride will be opening on December 5 called Rise of the Resistance. This attraction has been rumored to be one of the most technically advanced dark rides in existence, and the details learned today have only solidified those expectations.
The Story
The resistance needs help as enemies are drawing closer to their location. An electic group of Batuu refugees (you) is recruited to rendezvous with General Organa to assist. Of course, on your way to the meeting point, you are captured by Kylo Ren and brought aboard the Star Destroyer. Your vehicle runs around the Star Destroyer, causing havoc until you are able to find the escape pods. You use one of the escape pods to get back down to Batuu and return safely to the resistance forces. During the ride, guests will meet Rey, Poe, Finn, Kylo Ren, and General Hux.
Ride System
We learned that the ride will be divided into three portions. Riders will remain in a trackless vehicle with r5 unit throughout all three portions of the ride. First will be a shuttle ride where you will be intercepted by the Star Destroyer. After being brought aboard, the trackless vehicle will run around the Star Destroyer – finding, among other things, two full size AT-AT walkers in a hanger bay. However, the most exciting part of the ride will be the finale when you find the escape pod and travel back to Batuu. For this portion, the vehicle will enter a motion simulator with drop tower effect so you will be actually dropping about 10-20 feet during your experience.
