What is it?
UP! A Great Bird Adventure is a live, educational show about birds of the world. It features Doug and Russell from the movie, UP, along with magnificent birds such as macaw parrots and a marabou stork. The show lasts about 25 minutes and is located in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
My Toddler Tested Experience:
I booked FastPasses for this attraction thinking that it would make it easier for my children to wait forthe show. As someone who visits the theme parks often, I should have known better. FastPasses for a ride get you into a shorter line. FastPasses for a show get you into the theater quicker but also earlier than most other guests. Because of this, my children and I were sitting in the theater for almost 15 minutes before the show began. It was, shall we say, difficult to keep them entertained. I ended up having to pull out my phone for dinosaur pictures well before any birds entered the scene.
Once the show began, my children were a little more entertained. Even though they have not seen UP, they were both very excited to see Doug and Russell (but especially the “puppy”). The characters entertained my two year old for a little while, but she soon tired of them and began attempting to jump off the bleachers for the remainder of the show. The birds were too small to capture her attention.
My four year old, however, really enjoyed the entire experience (once the show started). The characters grabbed his attention, and he loved seeing all the birds. He understood more of what was going on and remained interested in the show for its entire duration.
Conclusion:
This show is great for “older” kids with a genuine interest in animals. I would not bring a child younger than four, unless they are a sleeping infant. If you use a FastPass, you might want to bring small toys or something else to keep your kids entertained while they wait for the show.
